FLAG was created in response to the farm credit crisis of the 1980s after tens of thousands of families lost their farms due to low commodity prices and overwhelming debt. Our attorneys represented a national class of 230,000 farmers, successfully challenging illegal procedures that were used to force farmers off their land. Today, as we near the end of 2016, farm income is again as low as it was in the ‘80s. We need your support now to help keep family farmers on the land.

National net farm income has declined for three consecutive years due to low commodity prices. Net farm income for 2016 is expected to fall to a level 55% below its level three years ago. Since 1970, net farm income has been lower in only five years, four of which were the worst years of the 1980s crisis: 1980, 1982, 1983, and 1984. The outlook for 2017 and beyond is even worse, with net farm income expected to decline each year through at least 2019. Family farmers’ dire need for FLAG’s legal services, with your support, will perhaps be as great in the coming years as it was when FLAG was created to help solve the ‘80s crisis.

Together, we can help keep family farmers and ranchers on the land, and in vibrant rural communities. Please visit GiveMN.org now to schedule your donation.
